We have been to Port Pirie before, many times.

We have been to Port Pirie before, many times. Usually it’s just a stopover enroute to Adelaide or back home to Port Lincoln. We love the Sa Favi Cafe - we’ve had breakfast there twice that we have stayed overnight and Saead, the owner, is a lovely and friendly face behind the counter. He is a credit to Port Pirie as a business owner. We like Port Pirie as a destination as well and will stay there for a longer period when we have our caravan with us.

For first time visitors there is plenty to see.

For first time visitors there is plenty to see. We have been a couple of times and seen most of the sites. It's very dry at the moment and very different from when we were there last year. Hopefully we'll all get some rain soon!

Easy to get around in Port Pirie.

Easy to get around in Port Pirie. Shopping precincts all over the place though, not all in one area. It's not the prettiest of towns. There are a lot of old scrappy gums which not only look ugly but don't provide much shade. We needed to be at the hospital where the parking is limited at the front . This is not very helpful when collecting consumers from emerg, day surgery or allied health visits. The main street disappears into an industrial area without helpful signage. There isn't a great deal to do but we were only there for a short trip. Many places to choose to eat.

Port Pirie is full of pleasant surprises.

Port Pirie is full of pleasant surprises. We were overnighting so had less than 24 hours there. We drove around the suburb and found some beautiful examples of stone houses - some small, others extremely large. Solomontown Beach - right in the heart of town is a delightful green space! And the sporting fields for all the different code are both numerous and awesome. Check out the Aquatic & Leisure Centre. And you'll be sorry if you don't seek out Caputo seafoods on Main Road. They have an incredible array of smoked and pickled seafood for you to sample - and then purchase a tasting plate of the things that you liked most. They also do a great cooked while-you-wait seafood bundle for a very reasonable price - but only for lunch! If Jo is serving - with her beautiful smile and welcoming manner - you're in for an even bigger treat.

Port Pirie is an interesting City being the largest city in the mid-north of South Australia with History dating back to 1845... It has the largest Smelter & refinery in the Southern Hemisphere & the largest operation of Silo's that hold grain - there are lovely view points of the Flinders Ranges & the Port Pirie River... there is a beach where you can swim & interesting architecture in the City itself - We are retired people & would have different views on what we enjoy today - we were only there for a one night visit & so glad we did - it comes across as a peaceful friendly City that is home to hard working people - there are places to eat, we had eaten earlier in the day at another location, so we didn't look for a restaurant... We would visit again.

Cafe One Two was great for brunch/breakfast.

Cafe One Two was great for brunch/breakfast. Reasonable shopping (the usual suspects). The op shop and the bookshop were great. There for an unavoidable 5 day stay but was happy with the place and the friendly people. Just not happy with the accommodation.

Sensational. An oasis in the desert just outside Port Pirie. Meticulously presented, clean, spacious and extremely comfortable cabin with kitchenette, air-conditioning and mod-cons. Unexpected extras in the room - freshly baked bread, milk and breakfast cereal/yoghurt - really made for a great stay.
