The Queen of the Belgian Seaside Resorts
Located in the Flemish province of West Flanders, the city of Ostend (or Oostende) is the biggest on the Belgian coast. This cosmopolitan seaside resort has long sandy beaches, a modern harbor and magnificent fish restaurants.
Built in September 1905 in the presence of King Leopold II, the imposing Roman Catholic Neo-Gothic church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul is the symbol of Oostende. Housed in a former department store built by Gaston Eysselinck, Ostend's Museum of Modern Art has an interesting collection of contemporary Belgian works.
The Oostende train station is a gorgeous building between the Marina and the Vissers Kaai, featuring classical style architecture. Leaving the train station, you'll find a stunning fishing market with numerous fish stands selling mussels, crabs and herring.
Wander around the promenade and visit one of the traditional restaurants to enjoy Dover Sole, shrimp croquettes and tomatoes filled with shrimps. Booking.com has lots of hotels, apartments and vacation homes by the North Sea.
Situated in a strategic position, the beautiful destination of Ostend is an hour away from Brussels and is accessible by train. The Ostend-Bruges International Airport serves a wide variety of destinations, including regions on the Mediterranean Coast and Canary Islands.

Nice places to visit in the city, plenty of restaurants and shops. Sea side is very good and well maintained, very clean. Easy to move around, Tram and train station, all usable with your bank card. Usually plenty of carpark places all over the city. We drove around from here to other city's like Bruge and Ghent and it was fast and it is amazing how they kept the speed limits quite high even in the city. Well done Belgium.Guest review byV - 6.0

Great town for families, with lots of pedestrianised areas, little traffic, and lots of sandy beaches that are never busy. My wife and I visited Ostend for the first time over 30 years ago with a group of travelers. It is one of those places that you just feel at home in. There are plenty of bars and restaurants however we have found our favorites and generally stick to those. Den Artiest is a place that has to be visited at least once in your life. For those that like chicken the Cluck Cluck (as we call it) cant be forgotten too. There used to be a wonderful quirky pub, the Cosey Corner, but that has been closed down. Ostend is an ideal base for visiting Belgium. Beautiful beaches, not to busy and Only a 15 minute train ride into Brugge. Lots of lovely places to get your traditional Belgium waffles, Belgium beers, Belgium chocolates, and a lot cheaper than Brugge. Georges tea room is an ideal places to get your waffles. Well worth the money. Ostend has a tram system which makes getting around very easy. Just remember, Knokke is the end of line in the North and De Panne is the end of the line in the south. Both my children (aged 11, 8 and 6) and I really enjoyed the apartment and our stay in Oostende. Also, as there is a tram station near the apartment, the Oostende station is easily accessible. There's a big supermarket a mere 5m walk away. You get a great sea view in the living room and a great Melrose Place view of the pool from the bedroom 😉. Really good value for money! Clean, modern and well equipped. It's not a hotel though, so bring your own sheets and towels, you can apparently also rent those but you'll pay extra for that.
