Angra is a good place to stay for 1-3 days before going to Ilha Grande. If you stay in an apartment in Piratas Mall, as we did, you are 5 blocks away from the Bus station, where you can take a bus to Paraty. And also 25 minutes away from the Port, Santa Lucia, where you can buy excursions to the islands, which are beautiful. Paradise started here! I guess there is no other description to the place. Where can I start it? Its millions of islands and beaches with foaming greenish water? The forest that ends up right at the beach? Or all the fauna you can find just swimming in ANY beach (like turtles, fish, crabs, corals, you name it!) It had a swimming pool, outdoor and indoor communal areas and a very friendly cat that made this stay much nicer. Bonus points for the cat alone! The hotel staff contacted me on whatsapp and also provided opportunity to either leave luggage at the reception before check-in and even said we can check-in earlier. We were upgraded to a much larger room which was a lovely surprise and the view from our balcony was beautiful. The free kayak and paddle boards were a great addition as we spent a lot of our time exploring the water and beaches near the hotel on them.
