Great place to stay. Way better than I expected. The view is just incredible. The people in the hotel treats you very well and they are extremely helpful. The rooms are very good. And for a very good price. Only thing against it is the location, but you should expect it if staying in Guiza.

My stay at the Sayed Effendi Boutique Hotel was the final week of my month-long journey exploring Egypt, and it was the absolute perfect note to end on. Any fears I had about navigating one of the world's biggest capitals were completely washed away by the exceptional care I received here, turning my apprehension into a deep love for Cairo. First, a massive thank you to the incredible team at the reception. Their support was brilliant and went far beyond any expectation. They kindly helped with every enquiry, from booking a haircut to providing trusted referrals for a cosmetic clinic to refresh my face after months in the sun and wind of Sinai's coastal cities. They expertly organized two private day tours for me to see Cairo's top destinations, making everything seamless. Their warmth and professionalism are the hotel's greatest asset. The hotel itself is a masterpiece. Housed in a beautifully restored 19th-century mansion, the design seamlessly blends historic charm with modern comfort. My room was a peaceful, immaculately clean sanctuary. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the bathroom felt luxurious with its high-quality bath products—a true treat after weeks of travel. The rooftop is a gem. The team there provided wonderful everyday service with a smile, making it the ideal place to unwind with a tea while overlooking the city. The breakfast served there was delicious and varied, a great start to each day. Its location is also a major plus: it's in the charming, walkable Zamalek area, within easy walking distance to downtown attractions and public transport links. A huge thank you to each and every one of the staff. You made my final week unforgettable and perfectly relaxed after a month of exploration. Because of you and this universe of a boutique hotel, I left Cairo not just impressed, but in love.

FAQs about hotels in Cairo

Resting Place of Pharaohs

Born of an ancient civilisation, Cairo is a vast metropolis centred around the Nile. Its sheer scale can feel overwhelming (especially when flying over it into Cairo Airport), so plan ahead. An obvious starting point are the Giza Pyramids. Although the pharaohs are long gone, the grandeur of their burial pyramids, the Sphinx and Solar Boat are testament to their ambition.

The city’s Egyptian Museum houses a dazzling display of ancient Egyptian artefacts, including finds from Tutankhamun’s tomb in Luxor. Around the corner is Tahrir, a huge square and focal point of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.

East is Islamic Cairo, home to 9th-century Ibn Tulun Mosque, Al-Azhar Mosque (site of the world’s oldest university), and the Khan el-Khalili souk – remember to haggle. The Citadel, with its elegant Mohammed Ali Pasha Mosque, sits on a hill offering far-reaching city views.

If you want to step out of cultural tours, take a Nile cruise by felucca, spot wildlife in Wadi Digla desert park or visit Egypt’s top theme parks: Dream Park and Magic Land, where you can tour Egyptian TV studios.

Before heading to your Cairo accommodation, sample the local cuisine – the falafel and fuul (bean paste) are delicious. Turkish coffee is a staple and there are hundreds of shisha bars, while major Cairo hotels have bars serving alcohol.

Eh Cairo is pretty dumpy with a ridiculous amount of homeless dogs and cats. I'm a dog owner so seeing so many stray dogs was heartbreaking. Also my girlfriend got checked out by almost every guy which got old pretty fast. Pyramids and GEM were great but wouldn't go there again.

Cairo has a lot to offer, allow one day for Giza Pyramids and The Grand Egyptian Museum, Another day for Museum of Egyptian Civilization (contains mummies), the Citadel and to visit the Khan el Khalili bazar. Allow another day to visit to Memphis and Sakkara Step Pyramid, the Bent Pyramid, the Pink Pyramid and the Southern Pyramid. There are many other sites but I believe above to be the minimum.

Historic center is non existent all destroyed.

Historic center is non existent all destroyed. To enter the cave churches you go throug a plastic waste dump / Christian slumb. Everywhere from Gizeh to down town you will smell shit and see dammaged buildings and even more shit. We saw camels and horses in pain. Everyone wants your money and there are lying to eachother, even Egyptians get fucked in this city. Just go somewhere else, Aswan is historical, great, safe en tight

Cairo is a very big and busy city. The Pyramids, Sphinx, the Grand Egyptian Museum and the main museum must be on the itinerary. Khan El Khalili Market is over hyped and in my opinion 'avoidable'. Cotton shirts and towels I feel are items for a good purchase.

Be ready to be in a crowded busy 3rd world city.

Be ready to be in a crowded busy 3rd world city. Consent beeping horns can be heard all day and night. The low haze ( pollution ) is guaranteed. The crossing of busy 3/4 land roads is a challenge but doable. Only stay at 4/5 star hotel just to have a comfort haven to retreat back into. Don’t get me wrong I love 3rd world countries but not really in the cities. I am blonde fair skinned female in her 50s and I felt comfortable walking the streets with my long pants and tshirt with a light elbow sleeve shirt over the top. The streets paths are uneven and you need comfortable walking shoes and be looking where you’re walking so you don’t trip over. We spent 2 nights in the Giza and flew to Aswan for 3 night Nile Cruise and then 2 nights in Cairo city ( only thing we missed that we wanted to see was Abel Simel but our time schedule didn’t allow for this) We booked everything ourselves and looking back maybe could have a night at Luxor after Nile Cruise to a rest.

The rooftop terrace had an amazing view of the Pyramids and Sphinx. Location good with taxis, easily organised by the hotel. We went to the Egyptian Museum for less than £2.00 around a 45 minute journey, cost us a bit more to get back. Don't expect 5 star, but for the excellent price, you can't go wrong.
