We hadn't meant to stop in Cirencester, but we'd gotten a bit lost in the area and hadn't eaten breakfast. We drove to the middle of town, marveled at the architecture, ate lunch at a delightful cafe just above a bookstore. Just beside the bookstore wad a glassblowing shop, where we watched the artisan and picked up some small souvenirs. Cirencester is a town that we had zero expectations about and fell in love with. We loved the walks around the town and the restaurants and parks. Very big old trees, the statues of the hare. The parish in Watermore was very welcoming when we joined the congregation for worship on Sunday. Unfortunately, the air raid shelter seems to have closed for the public. The history and buildings were really interesting.
The history and buildings were really interesting. Plenty of shops and cafes within easy walking distance. Museums, amphitheatre and art galleries were great. Friendly people and the tourist information was a hit. Wish we had more time to visit the park. Lovely shops, a wide range of restaurants and pubs, a very interesting museum, Abbey grounds and Cirencester Park all make Cirencester a good choice for a short break. Breakfast excellent each morning (4) and we tried various different choices! Staff were always friendly and helpful. We loved the beer garden and in fact invited numerous family and friends over (it became a central hub/meeting point for us! - we were all in the area to attend a wedding) who also ate meals there, which were good.
