FAQs about hotels in Inverness

Gateway to the Highlands and Loch Ness

A jewel with historic buildings and charming streets, Inverness is surrounded by a typical Scottish Highland landscape. It is located 10 km from Loch Ness, along the mouth of the Ness River and the Moray Firth coast. It is regarded as the northernmost city in the United Kingdom, and capital of the Highlands.

Take a walk around the Old Town, visit St Andrew’s Cathedral, and make a stopover in the charming Victorian Market. The Old High St Stephen's Church is the oldest building in town, and has been a religious site since pre-Christian times.

The Inverness Castle overlooks the river and is nowadays the seat of the Sheriff Court. A hotel in Inverness city centre is ideal to enjoy the different cultural and recreational activities in town.

Watch the Atlantic salmon jumping out the river near the Ness Islands, and try to catch a glimpse of the famous monster of Loch Ness. The Cairngorms National Park is 40 km away, and Chanonry Point is the best spot to watch dolphins, just 24 km away.

Inverness hotels include a large offer of small, cosy guest houses, B&B’s, and rural cottages, allowing a closer contact with the nature. Don’t miss the Inverness accommodation deals on Booking.com!

The train station is right in the main part of town.

The train station is right in the main part of town. Lots of hotels are easy walking distance, even hauling luggage! We went out of Inverness to the Loch, to see Urquhart Castle and out on the Firth, which were great experiences, but I wish we had had the time to also see the museum and go on a walking tour of Inverness itself. We did use GetYourGuide to meet a lovely woman who made us lunch in her home with locally foraged ingredients, and then we engaged her to take us around Inverness a bit and out to Culloden. Well worth the cost! We enjoyed McGregor's Whisky Experience and had a great meal at Auctioneer's Pub. We spent some time at Hootenanny's, but I would have liked to have more time to listen to even more music at more locales. Leaky's bookstore is worth a drop-by. I found some lovely old prints there. And if you are headed into the Highland Moors for hiking, go to Graham's across the street from the Castle. Great products, the quality you need for a moorland trek, and the staff were fabulous!

    Interesting museum & indoor market.

Interesting museum & indoor market. The castle was not open just now. Nice walk along the river towards the Botanical Gardens which are very small but pleasant with a cafe. Interesting nearby to see the end of the Calededonian Canal & easy buses back to the centre from the Park & Ride near there. Went to the Eden Theatre for the Scottish Ballet about Mary Queen of Scots which was wonderful & such a nice theatre. Good evening meal at the Mustard Seed cafe but it was very busy and there was a need to book. Left luggage at the Bus Station was good and cheaper than leaving luggage at the Railway Station., except it had to be collected by 5pm.

I spent most of my time in Inverness doing day trips to other locations (Isle of Sky, Cairngorms, etc.). I spent a little time in the city and enjoyed it. Definitely liked the HoHo bus (did that in each city... great to get some history as well as the lay of the land). There is more to do in Inverness itself... I'm not a bit "city" person, but would definitely have enjoyed a bit more time. XOKO Bakehouse was definitely a favorite spot to pick up breakfast. Stayed at the Black Isle Bar and Rooms... great value and amazing pizza! Tried to eat at The Mustard Seed but their ovens went out before the main course and ended up picking up some salmon for dinner at Kool Runnings which was great fun and very good.

Fabulous city, easy going , feels safe and friendly even late on a Saturday night. Eden Court Theatre , great venue saw the Budapest Cafe Orchestra there who were brilliant entertertainers. Lovely River Walk along tbe Ness. Beautiful Botanic Gardens with great cafe. The Glen Mhor Distillery and Brewery was a great place to chill out and listen to live music. Great beer and whiskey too, taster platters were amazing. The Jamaican restaurant called Kool Runnings served up a fab goat curry and a very much appreciated Mojito 👌

Inverness is an excellent base to tour the Highlands, especialy the North Coast 500. Getting in and out of the city is easy on major roads. The city itself is very average (quite interesting museum) but a parking nightmare.

Great Apartment New and cozy Everything has been more than perfect! From Berryfield as our base we visited: Isle of Skye, Inverness, Cairngorms, Orkney - and of course Loch Ness only a few minutes away. The perfect place to see all the great places of northern Scotland!

What an amazing place. We spent 2 weeks driving through Scotland and Tangle Tower was the accomodation that stood out to us the most. We loved the location, the views, and the house was so cosy. If I was ever back in Inverness I'd 100% want to stay there again.

Locality. Inverness, Aviemore and Loch Ness only a short drive away. Local village store only 4 mins drive. Loved the seclusion surrounded by beautiful scenery. Brilliant base to explore that particular part of Scotland. Definitely booking this one again.

The location was well placed for multiple super markets close at hand; very easy for going north, south, east and west to the whole of Scotland; convenient for Inverness. Quiet and spacious grounds.
