The location is amazing! A very cozy quiet place, this is my third time coming here. The room has everything you need for a comfortable stay, the view from the balcony is stunning. You can sit on the balcony for a long time, drink wine, listen to the sound of the surf and watch the stars. The light from the oil lamp creates a romantic atmosphere :) A very beautiful beach with few people, which is undoubtedly a plus. The hotel provides sunbeds, umbrellas, kayaks and a catamaran free of charge. The tavern serves excellent food, and the tsatsiki are worthy of special admiration. I tried a lot of different fresh fish and every time it was cooked amazingly, my favorite was the red lion fish. It looked just as great on a plate as it did in the sea. The kitchen also offered homemade delicacies, such as bureki and dolma. At the end of the meal, the hosts always give a compliment - raki with sweets. Many thanks to the owners and staff for their kindness and care.

I picked Calypso because of the recently renovated property, since I had only a few days to do a lot hiking, swimming and boating around and wanted a comfy bed and nice shower. The bed is indeed big and comfortable, there is a fancy rain shower, all new fixtures and a balcony with a great view. But the real plus of Calypso are the family that run it. I’m honored to have met them. I wanted to try some of the other taverns in the village, but the food at Calypso was too good.

Splendid quiet location, you are both in the mountains and also just a short ride away from the beach. Lots of hiking opportunities nearby. And a warm welcome of the hostess Wanda, who delivers a better service than if you were staying in a real hotel :-)

Very good value for money, clean apartment with a very nice pool that can be closed in case of bad weather. If you want to stay in the mountains after a hike would recommend to stay at Omalos Village.

If you want to walk the Samarian Gorge, I would recommend starting and finishing at Agia Roumeli, a quiet, charming village, accessible only by sea. The beach is tough on the feet so reef shoes will help. The lower half of the Gorge is the nicest, and we enjoyed doing it twice, the first time early in the morning with no one else around. Cool in the shade and the Gates near the end are the best. We loved our stay at Calypso, with charming Andreas and his staff.

Unlike the north of the Crete coats, which is way too touristic, Agia Rouméli, was one of our favorite places to visit in Crete. Remote, with no roads. Only accessible by foot (8h tracking path) or Ferry. We rented a car and drove until Sougia (also a very nice village), and took the Ferry until Agia Rouméli. We were supposed to stay 1 night, but ended up booking 1 extra night, where we stayed in a room with a beatiful ocean view. It was the place where we have eaten the best food. Eveything is fresh, and the locals are friendly. It's a very quite place. Perfect to relax!

Great hotel, the Samaria, restaurant with views to the sea and mountains. Great place to stay for hikers, snorkelers, boat trips and people that want to relax. Agia Roumeli is easy to get around, but for more adventurous people you have the Samaria Gorge to test your walking stamina.

Don't bypass this place after Samaria, plan to spend 1-2 nights here to walk the fantastic E4 to Agios Pavlos or simply to enjoy Agia Roumeli without all the tourists that are only there from 1-5pm. The beach both inside the village and the ones to the east are easily reachable by foot, while to the immediate west you don't want to miss Kalogeros (Monk) beach that requires a small boat trip or sup/canoe. The abandoned castle on top of the hill is challenging but the view is outstanding in all directions.

Nice, quiet village with friendly people and good food...

Nice, quiet village with friendly people and good food facilities. Ideal vacation place with small children. Sea, walking part of Samaria Gorge (from Agia Roumeli to Samaria village and back is durable with children, just take something to eat and drink with you - there are no selling points there). You can also take a walk to Agios Pavlos or (if not afraid of climbing) take a route to the medieval castle ruines ( take less steap route, partly going through a forest - less dangerous and not so hot). During long stay we tried more than 5 restaurants and liked Faragi and Paralia the most: good meals, friendly owners; we felt almost at home at those places.

Agia Roumeli is a small village, which mainly accommodates those who visit the Samaria Gorge. Access is either by foot from the gorge or by boat from other parts of Sfakia region. It is definitely recommended to stay in Agia Roumeli after visiting the Gorge, as it is a quite demanding hike and some time to rest and relax is much needed. Lots of nice restaurants and cafes to choose from. People are warm and welcoming, and the Agia Roumeli beach is also lovely.

We visited in mid October and the hotel was quiet, very comfortable and the staff were attentive and helpful. We paid extra for a room overlooking the sea and it came with a small balcony which was well worthwhile. Breakfast was amazing. It was served in a lovely beach side restaurant and included yogurt & fruit, a cooked breakfast, pastries, fresh orange juice and coffee. This hotel was a highlight of our holiday. Thank you!

This property is a gem. The view from the room and terrace is exceptional. comfortable bed and big room. The hostess, Anna, was very friendly and helpful. We wanted to leave earlier than breakfast started to go to Samaria Gorge and she kindly put together a picnic for us. I wish we could have stayed longer.

Big enough and clean room, beautiful view, the place is directly on the beach above one of the apparently most popular restaurants at the very end of the Samaria gorge trail, the owner was a very nice guy, all in all excellent value for money
