Great location 10 minutes from the Blue lagoon. We stayed here on our first night in Iceland going straight from the airport to the Blue lagoon then checked in. Not a lot here but there’s a pretty church here Tip: don’t buy supplies in the airport shop - we stocked up & it cost us a fortune. Grindavik is a small, beautiful fishing village close to the Geldingadalur volcano (but not too close) and the Blue Lagoon. It has many excellent hiking opportunities and great restaurants. Grindavik is surrounded by a beautiful natural landscape. Great location for Meradalir. Fabulous fish and chips at Papas - Grindavik is a fishing town, so all fish is fresh that morning. Lovely walking around the town. Very peaceful. Great for exploring south coast and peninsula. Only 25 mins from Keflavik.Guest review byLorraine - 10.0

We stopped for one night during our Iceland tour to visit the Blue Lagoon and Fagradalsfjall, the volcano that erupted in 2021 and is still smoldering several months later. Grindavik is a working fishing village with a few local restaurants, grocery store and pharmacy, so is a really good spot to stay for a day when touring Iceland. This is a dock terminal terrible views, bad aspect for tourists, cabin super smaill no microwave, no waste basket in bathroom, nothing to sweep with, place is creepy, huge caping yard nezt to the property that makes it seem dangerous. Grindavik is a lovely town with a huge fisherman history. It's super close to the Blue lagoon and volcano so, there are many options for hiking or relaxing. There's a grill place with a super nice man who told me a little about the history and life of Grindavik's people and he also sells awesome hotdogs. The food at Max’s restaurant was fabulous, make sure you book a table as it’s open to non residents too and was very popular. The spa facilities were great. Make your own waffles in the afternoon was novel and very moreish Breakfast offering was a very good selection. Both the blue lagoon and the airport were relatively near the hotel which was very practical. There was a volcano eruption 2 years ago so the town was abandoned. It feels like a ghost town with kms of cooled lava around it which is interesting. It’s a good base for visiting the main sites such as Blue Lagoon, Reykjavik, (hikes to) vulcano’s, Reykjadalur thermal river, etc. There’s several restaurants at walking distance. Comfortable room and bathroom. It is painfull to get a request from Booking for a review at this time. I know of the current situation in Grindavik, and I hope and prey that everyone stays safe and the volcano will not erupt this time. It's super close to Blue Lagoon so I highly recommend it for your stay. It's quite untypical because city seems to be abandoned, but I read that a lot of people moved out after one of the eruption.
