FAQs about hotels in Verona

A Shakespearean Fairytale

A darling of Shakespeare, beautiful Verona is the literary home of Romeo and Juliet. The medieval families of Montague and Capulet immortalized in the tragic play did actually exist and some buildings relating to the Montagues are still present.

Sorry to disappoint, but the place purporting to have been Juliet's house in Verona was not actually where she lived. However, it’s still worth suspending reality for a while and stepping out onto the balcony to see if Romeo turns up.

Another of the must-see Verona sights is the Arena, a largely intact Roman amphitheater which is now the spectacular setting for outdoor summer operas. Smaller Roman relics include the stone bridge that crosses the river by the Roman theater whose remains are partly beneath a house.

The city’s narrow streets house many cafes and restaurants which have cheaper fare than the touristy ones by the Arena, although admittedly the views are less impressive. Life in Verona is laid back and elegant, so expect to see some well-heeled Italians on a post-dinner passeggiata.

Verona Airport is a little out of town, so you’ll need to take a bus to get to your Verona hotel, apartment or B&B. Book with Booking.com for the best choice.

Verona is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited. It is steeped in so much history, so much of which is visible by walking around the old town (definitely book onto a walking tour). Skip Juliet's balcony for a walk up to Castel San Pietro and soak up the breathtaking views. There are so many restaurants, bars, gelaterias and cafes - practically on every corner - meaning you're spoilt for choice. Great for shopping, too. It's a city that really has everything - wonderful views, wonderful food, wonderful people. We spent some time walking along the various bridges and along the river in the autumn sun, which was superbly relaxing and delightful. It was busy when we visited in late September, but never felt 'overly busy'. We're eager to return!

Absolutely loved Verona....beautiful place with lots to explore. Very clean, no litter. Easy to walk to all the main attractions. Not expensive to eat and drink. High end shops on main shopping streets. Easy to get the train to Venice (90 mins), Lake Garda (15 mins), etc to explore further afield. Go...you won't regret it.

Verona was a great city to visit.

Verona was a great city to visit. There is a lot of history there that is perhaps not as well-known as other cities in Italy. The city was less busy with tourists than others which made it more enjoyable.

A lovely city centred round Piazza Bra and the Arena.

A lovely city centred round Piazza Bra and the Arena. The castle is also in the centre, by the river. Many good shops and interesting little piazzas. Try the "cichetti"(snacks like tapas) especially in Osteria del Bugiardo.

Nice compact city you can get around most sites in about 30 minutes walking from side to side. Bus tour was good, we used it to get to our property as well to drop off luggage. Could easily spend a few days to maximise the city, we only had a day because we were flying back to UK the following day. Airport very good, like a small provincial airport of the past in the UK. Will definitely visit Verona again. Arena great, Romeo and Juliet balcony. Nice market on the Saturday. We ate at Trattoria la Pigna (booked last minute through TheFork having found on Google) which was fantastic food and lovely helpful staff, nothing too much trouble. Good price for a very good meal. we ate in the cellar part of the restaurant which was atmospheric. Would 100% eat there again.

We arrived by train from Venice (cudos to the italian trains for speed, low price and comfort) and the difference was evident: Venice is a fairy tale, every walk is an adventure, every corner a surprise. Verona is the city you want to live in! Amazing architecture for real houses, easy to move around, many places to visit, restaurants to explore, events to pareticipate, people to meet

Location is great, and that's almost all positive. This is a cheap hostel, please do not be mislead by the reviews. We paid 50 euro per night, good price to stay in two steps from Arena di Verona, even in a hotel with a shared bathroom. However we did not expect that we could not use the bathroom at all as it was not clean. Room is rather big and there is good aircondition, but the furniture is in a bad shape, as well as the towels etc. No reasons to stay here for the full price.

Good location between the center and the train station. Both an easy walk. Verona is beautiful, and we went for day trips to Lake Garda, Venice and Mantova. The apartment is comfortable with a lot of space. Two bedrooms, separate kitchen and living room. Pam Supermarket is around the corner. The neighborhood is quiet, with good restaurants nearby (this is Italy).

Hotel Torcolo is a 2 star hotel with 4 star service. The location is perfect, the staff are excellent, we felt at home, they were very helpful and we really enjoyed our stay. The restaurant is also superb, one of the best meals we’ve had anywhere in Italy. Hotel Torcolo will be our first choice when we return to Verona. Big thank you to Catrina and all the staff.
