Because I got in late from doing the big bike ride over from Imabari, I was left with little time or energy to explore Onomichi. However, I did do some of the temple tour in the morning and it was excellent. I recommend taking the "ropeway" (I'd call it a cable car) to the hilltop and work your way down. Such a beautiful little town with really friendly residents who genuinely welcome and enjoy travellers. Lots to do in the day, a bit quite at night though so don’t rely on there being restaurants open for dinner. I loved Onomichi. I only spent one day and one night there before beginning the Shimanami Kaido cycle, but I wish I’d stayed and relaxed a bit more is this wonderful town. The temple walk was worth the views, cat alley was unique and worth seeing, I loved just grabbing a coffee or pastry and sitting on the pier to enjoy the view.Guest review byNinaIreland - 10
Expect lot's of walking.
Expect lot's of walking. There is something to see around every corner - or up every hill. Weather permitting it is a must. Not sure it would be much fun in the rain, unless you love shopping and eating sushi :-)Guest review byAnonymous

The hotel is great, lots of space for bikes. They also have tools and racks for your bikes. The hotel is about 300m from the station and there are lots of eateries in the immediate proximity (U2 Onomichi) and in the wider town. Hotel also has wind trainers set up and rents out bikes. The hotel is also very close to the JR train station (~5 mins), and offers a number of complimentary things, such as free tea, or you can buy snacks at the nearby convenience store and use the communal fridge. The facilities were very clean, and the showers had good water pressure and steady supply of warm water.
