A nice small quiet town with a few restaurants. Very picturesque with lots of canals. Good transport links to Amsterdam so you don’t have to stay in the hustle and bustle of a busy city. Easy drive to other attractions such as Marken, Volendam, Alkmaar Friday morning Cheese Market, Horne and Zuiderzee open air museum. Edam is a lovely village and great base for visiting Amsterdam, especially for families. There’s not a lot to do in Edam itself, but it’s really pretty and all the people we met were very friendly. Edam is a great little village.
Edam is a great little village. The cheese market is a must see. Get there a little early to get a front row seat, maybe 15 minutes before it opens. The canals are great and I recommend hiring a boat to do a one hour self guided tour. There are only a few restaurants in the town. We went to Volendam for food which was great. It is a bit hard to get to and even harder to get back. No Ubers available in the evening and all the taxi companies were not even picking up the phone. The top floor apartment was very clean and had everything we needed to cook. The location is perfect. It was quite easy to get in/out of the building and we never noticed any noise from nearby.
