It's lovely home, clean and tidy, location perfect, walking 5minutes to hot springs, 7 minutes driving to city center, beds very comfortable, shower aweome and georgeous views in a golf course. Ken is very friendly and gives lots of good suggestions. Excellent experience in living here.

We could see the cows in the paddock when we arrived and even from the lounge area and some of the bedroom windows. The area is also quaint and quiet with great sunset views. The place has everything you need for a short stay and a short drive from Hobbiton and the Blue Springs.

Jen was an absolutely amazing host. We greatly enjoyed sharing our stories and chatting over a pot of tea. She and her husband have some wonderful stories to tell, and are very eager to hear about yours as well! The house with no nails itself is incredibly beautiful and the craftsmanship is unmatched. Breakfast was wonderful, and we loved spending some time with the other travelers staying in the house. I would highly recommend staying here, especially if you are going to the Hobbiton experience as the house’s style fits beautifully with the Hobbit look! Overall we will not forget our time here as it was one of the best stays in New Zealand!

    The main point of our trip was to visit Hobbiton Movie Set.

    The main point of our trip was to visit Hobbiton Movie Set. This is an amazing experience, our second trip. Have done both the lunch & dinner experience. Food, staff & experience rate a 10. Had a great meal at Sofra, food & staff were great. Breakfast at The Rich Coffee Cafe was nice and the staff were ok. Visited the I-Centre too and found the staff to be helpful.

    Matamata was a complete surprise.

    Matamata was a complete surprise. We ate at 4 different restaurants and each place had friendly staff and good selections on the menus. The information centre staff were wonderful and very helpful. Hobbiton exceeded our expectations. Will definitely be returning to Matamata

    Matamata is a nice little town with the usual array of shops and some good eating places. Of course its access to Hobbiton, which was the purpose of our trip, but enjoyed a pleasant evening eating fish n chips in the wooded, shaded park area by the Isite.

    We were in Matamata for a wedding at Hobbiton which was a great experience for us, even though we are not Lord of the Rings fans. Plenty of places to dine and from Maple Lodge was an easy walk into the main centre of town.

    MATAMATA is a rural farming community in the Waikato area of NEW ZEALAND. Good eateries, bars, cafes, supermarkets, Hobbiton ofcourse is the tourist attraction, and the town is also known for its racehorses and stables.

    Location is basically the centre of Matamata - you are on the main road - so it is very close to places to eat, New World etc. The house has plenty of space; and well kept/clean. Off-street parking is good and there is a dairy literally next door AND Korean chicken place the other side. On Saturday there is a good market across the road. While the house was cold (old style house) there are multiple heat pumps so this is not really an issue. The kitchen is well stocked with equipment.

    The hosts, Glenn and Mark, were amazing! They made us a lovely dinner and homemade breakfast which was phenomenal. The studio itself is decorated so nicely and cleverly, e.g. with USB sockets near the bed which is a rarity in places we stayed in New Zealand. They have a picnic table on their fields where you can enjoy a nice glass of wine with a truly beautiful and peaceful setting.

    Fantastic kids play area. Clean and tidy room which was a good size. I recommened this to a lot of hotels as it seems to be a reoccurring thing. But the single bed for kids in family rooms where there are beds near living and kitchen areas should be in bedroom. So you can get the kids to bed and stay up and watch TV and use the living areas while they sleep.

    Clean and spacious accommodation with lots of useful amenities and undercover parking. Easy check in. Breakfast provided which was a nice touch. 10-15 minute walk into the centre of Matamata where there are lots of shops and places to eat. Very easy to drive from here to Hobbiton movie set.
