went to see a Sofronio Vasquez concert.

went to see a Sofronio Vasquez concert. I did not realize that Utica was in the middle of nowhere in New York. There are so many abandoned buildings, streets were almost empty. However, we enjoyed the concert.

Utica is a city of about 65,000 people in central New York.

Utica is a city of about 65,000 people in central New York. It is about two hours west of Albany and about four hours from New York City. Like much of central and western New York, it has struggled for years as the macroeconomy has transitioned from heavy industrial manufacturing to service based activities. Utica boasts a post-secondary educational institution, some nice hotels, a decent downtown area, and some nice restaurants. I am not sure if the city has found its economic niche.

We did a day trip to see our grandson at Utica University and stayed one night. Utica appeared to be a nice city. The University had a wonderful campus. The view while we watched the football game was awesome.

Utica is a small but nice city where you can explore...

Utica is a small but nice city where you can explore different things like the Utica Auditorium, Munson Williams Art Museum, The Stanley Theatre, and plenty of fine dining and cool coffee shops. Plenty of bars too if that's your thing. It's also close to New Hartford which is a bit more modern as far as its commercialization and residential areas.

    I honestly didn't see Utica.

I honestly didn't see Utica. The hotel seemed to be at the edge of town, and I stayed here because it was along our road trip home, and near my friend's town, which didn't have suitable accommodation of its own. The neighbourhood didn't make any real impression on me, except that it was pretty easy to access from the turnpike.

Went for the Adirondack Train ride.

Went for the Adirondack Train ride. Other then that, didn't seem like there was much else to do there. Seemed like a Ghost town. No where to eat within walking distance of the hotel and the one restaurant in the hotel did not open according to posted hours. Seemed like hotel management was not aware of what was going on with the in house restaurant. It is my opinion, that when people travel they like to have some place to eat

The hotel was clean and comfortable and as we had stayed there for a night a few days previously on the way to Niagra Falls we had liked it then so decided to stay again on the way back to Harrison, NY.

Not much, the room was grimy and there was a group of noisy guests playing loud music. Hotel should have intervened but no sign of anyone from red roof.
