It is a nice apartment in a garage loft. The space is spotlessly clean and neatly arranged in a "modern Japanese" style featuring tatami mats, futon beds, shoji doors etc. The host, Asami, is incredibly polite and accommodating. She quickly responded to my messages, picked us up from the train station and never bat an eyelid in response to our "on-the-way" chaotic planning. Asami's husband runs a small buddhist temple. It's very serene and open for the guests. You can also opt in for a guided tour, which we did and liked very much. The bicycles that they provided us (for free!) were very useful for exploring the surroundings. We visited Mount Shizugatake and the Nishino Tunnel. The former has splendid views; the lift was closed but it was a very pleasant walk. Regarding the tunnel: it's good to know there are actually two tunnels, the original and the modern one. This made it very easy to split into two groups (... the Adventurers and the Cowards ...). One great surprise was the Cherry Tree Alley leading to a shrine not far from the Shizugatake lower lift station. We thought we had arrived in Japan too late for the cherry blossoms, but here they had this late blooming variety that allowed us take lovely Sakura photos at the end of April!

Si buscas una escapada al Japón más tradicional, no te lo pienses. ¡Éste es tu sitio! Lejos de las luces de neón y multitudes, el lugar idóneo para disfrutar del bosque, de la naturaleza, de los colores del otoño, de la tranquilidad y de la cultura ancestral y milenaria que este increíble país ofrece. Casi en la cima de la montaña, tras una hora en autobús acompañando el curso del río harihata y recreándose con sus vistas encontrarás este fantástico lugar, donde te esperará una de las personas más maravillosas y de las que mejor recuerdo me llevo del país. Una vez en la posada empieza la magia que te transportará al Japón más clásico: ya sea sentado en la mesa kotatsu saboreando un estupendo desayuno tradicional casero o descansando en el tatami sobre un mullido futón te sentirás en el japón feudal. En definitiva, me ha parecido un lugar único, gestionado por una mujer igual de única y amable, que nos han brindado una de las mejores experiencias del viaje. Cuando vuelva por el país del sol naciente (espero el próximo año) volveremos a pasar aquí unos días para conocer más a profundidad y caminar por estos paisajes que tanto tienen que ofrecer. Gracias

静かに過ごす古民家ステイ Staying quietly in renovated house está en Takashima, a 48 km de Templo Ruriko-in, a 49 km de Templo Enryaku-ji y a 50 km de Shugakuin Imperial Villa. The owners were so friendly and caring! It was such a lovely experience staying with them! If you want to have a relaxing day in a countryside area and just want to experience the laid back life there I recommend you to stay there. Besides it's not far to go to lake biwa by a little walking and to go to imazu to catch a ferry to chikubu Island.

Sin lugar a dudas, uno de los mejores alojamientos en los que me he alojado. Autentico y con personalidad, y un trato exquisito. 10/10

快適なアメリカ製トレーラーハウスで非日常グランピング está en Maibara, a 10 km de Castillo Hikone, y dispone de alojamiento con bicicletas gratis, parking privado gratis, jardín y terraza.

Jonni`s Place, que está a 14 km de Templo Enryaku-ji y a 15 km de Templo Shoren-in, ofrece habitaciones en Sakamoto. Jonni was an incredible host. Like the other reviews say, he’s very kind and even picked us up from the local station! He let us know what was going on in sakamoto during our stay and we got to enjoy a lights event at the shrines. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay and check out Kyoto this is perfect! The rooms are spacious and much more affordable than anything directly in Kyoto. Enjoy the scenery, have breakfast at La Alberca up the street, and enjoy Sakamoto. :)
