Rooms feature tatami-mat flooring, comfortable futon bedding and paper sliding screens. They are fitted with an LCD TV and a safe. Bathroom facilities are shared, and the public baths are open 16:00-22:00 and 06:00-09:00 daily. The temple and grounds are stunningly beautiful. The room was the nicest I've had on this trip - comfortable and beautiful. The temple is cold but the heaters in the bedrooms made it very comfortable. The meals were delicious - again some of my best on my entire trip. They were very generous in sharing information about their religion and culture, and inviting tourists to participate in activities that helped us to better understand the life and routine at Ekoin. I appreciated the booklet in the room that explained how to navigate different things (e.g. the meditation, the morning service) so that I better understood. It was a special experience and was grateful for the opportunity to visit here.

200 metres from Kumanokodo Nakahechi Museum of Art, 民宿 和合 Minshuku WAGO is a recently renovated property set in Tanabe and offers air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi and private parking. It is located 29 km from Kamitonda Concert Hall and features full-day security. The guest house has parking on-site, a hot tub and a shared kitchen. Perfect stay, on my way on Kumano Kodo. This place is perfectly located to have a one-night stop between Takijiri and Hongu. Ike is a very welcoming host, and speaks very well English! He and his wife are two great cookers, as I had the chance to try their dinner/breakfast/luck box. I truly recommend! Thanks a lot! :)

39 km from Kishi Station in Koyasan, 高野山 宿坊 光明院 -Koyasan Shukubo Komyoin- provides accommodation with access to a hot tub. It is situated 45 km from Matsushita Park and offers luggage storage space. The ryokan features rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi. A really nice shukubo experience - definitely recommend it. You get a sense of the daily life of the monks, and it is well located next to all the main sights in Koya. In the morning, you can participate in two rituals, and they are as depicted on the photos. Hope to be back some day!
