ItalyI spent two nights at the Crown Inn in Stornoway with my brother and his family and we had a very pleasant stay! The rooms were comfortable and very cleaned, very generous breakfast, and great position, in the town centre and just five minutes walk from the ferry terminal. If you've got a car there is a free parking space just in front of the building.
The first night we decided to have dinner at the Crown Inn restaurant and we enjoyed it so much that we decided to book a table for dinner the following night as the food was great and there was also a beautiful view on the seaside and on the castle. The staff has been kind and helpful! If I ever have the chance to visit the isle again, and I really hope I will, I will have no doubts and book at the Crown Inn again. The Isle of Harris and Lewis is astonishing, really miss it!

New ZealandChristina came to meet us at the door and was so gracious and welcoming. The whole team there took such good care of us and made a difficult trip (bereavement) much more bareable. The room was so comfortable and decorated beautifully. There's a fully accessible bathroom and lift too which is great and the bed is perfect. The castle has been restored so well and looks gorgeous inside and out. Really recommend having a walk around the castle grounds while you're staying too.
The café staff were super friendly and took our drinks to the guest lounge for us when we had family visiting. The food is really nice and they make good hot drinks and the tablet they sell is delicious. They will try their best to help you. We even got invited to watch a fashion show which was cool.
Really can't recommend this place enough and we'll definitely stay again next time we're on the island. Everyone clearly loves what they're doing and it really shows. Plus, it's a castle! What's not to like?

Felt like home immediately. The rooms were big and very cosy with a lot of storage. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare our breakfasts and dinners. We were pleasantly surprised to find fresh breakfast goodies in the fridge which was a nice touch. All in all an amazing place and a great team who were responsive and nice. This review is more about Lewis and Harris, Sandwick is a small suburb of Stornaway. It has an interesting memorial to HMS Iolaire. We spent 4 nights on the island. Although the weather was pretty awful, the island is lovely and we spent a fair bit of time touring Lewis and Harris. The Butt of Lewis is nice and there is a lovely walk to Eoropie bay with lovely sandy beach. We are interested in birds and found Red necked Phalorope, GND, Red throated Diver, Golden Eagle, Guillemots, Fulmars etc. Take the drive across Pentland Road it is lovely and good for birds. Sadly we didn't really have raptor weather (lots of rain). Stornaway is a bit limited - if you want to dine out book well ahead as there aren't many places and they fill up quickly. We enjoyed the Boatshed at the Royal Hotel for dinner. EVERYTHING closes on Sunday (including most of the petrol stations so beware).Guest review byPaul A. MooreUnited Kingdom - 10.0

A stunningly beautiful area, used it as a base to explore the whole of Lewis and Harris. Lots of single track roads which give the passenger lots of time to take in the stunning views. The roads are very quiet, and everyone is courteous and gives way in the plentiful passing places. You'll get friendly waves when you give way. I would love to come again and spend more time just enjoying the views and the birdsong. Highly recommend the Ravenspoint Visitor Centre - wildlife watching, self-service cafe where you pay a donation, lovely museum of local life, staffed by friendly and very informative volunteers.Guest review byJulia - 10.0

We loved our accommodation at Coleil Cottage and the area in general. It was a good base for travelling to the North or South of the island. Being next to the coast, it was a great area for whale and dolphin watching. Been to cottage a few times now. We have been to other in the area and up in Ness but we prefer the location here. Is quiet and has all the things you need and none of the things you dont! There’s not much to see and do in Stornoway but it is an excellent base for exploring Lewis and Harris. It was easy to reach the main tourist spots of Ness, Callanish, Carloway and Gearrannan Blackhouse Village. Also not far to experience the stunning scenery of Harris including the famous Luskentyre Beach.
